Our Story
In 1999, while working in the IT department at Herman Miller, I noticed that smaller businesses did not have access to enterprise level IT support — even though they had the same needs as the larger businesses who did.
So, I approached a few local businesses with the offer of a complete, outsourced IT department and a virtual CIO to go with it. I explained this would include strategic planning, budget predictability, helpdesk support, and systematic preventative maintenance. All for a flat, predictable, monthly fee.
Turned out, this was an easy sell! These business owners loved the idea of having their very own IT department. The access to professional expertise, predictable costs, and a dedicated “CIO” was a no-brainer. Within a few months, I had enough clients that I hired my first full-time engineer, (Doug is still an important member of our team) and we continue to provide IT support to many of our original clients to this day!
Over the last 24 years, SCS has quietly grown to a team of 20 professionals, and I believe this growth is due to the unique way we do things. We strategically organize our teams around you. You get your own point of contact, a primary engineer, and a group of support staff who really know their stuff. This team of familiar faces takes the time to learn about your goals, your vision for your organization, and the way you prefer to use and leverage technology. We truly become an extension of your business.
It’s this comprehensive, all-inclusive relationship that has made us (and our clients) so successful over the years. To this day, when new organizations learn about us, I often hear things like “you are the best kept secret in West Michigan”!
